BREAST BIOPSY PREP INSTRUCTIONS
Do not take aspirin or any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as Advil, Motrin, Aleve, naproxen sodium, ibuprofen, etc.) within 5 days prior to procedure. These medications interfere with blood clotting and may increase chance of significant bruising. These may be resumed 2 days after the procedure. If pain medications are needed during this period, please take only acetaminophen (Tylenol) as this does not interfere with blood clotting.
Herbal supplements that affect bleeding, such as gingko biloba, vitamin E and fish oil should not be taken within 7 days prior to the biopsy. These can be resumed 2 days after the procedure.
If you take the following blood thinners (Heparin, Coumadin, Persantine or Plavix), please inform us at the time of scheduling. Our radiologist will need to check with your physician regarding these medications before scheduling your biopsy. Blood thinners must be stopped 5 to 10 days prior to the procedure.
There are no diet restrictions. You may eat and drink as usual and take your usual medications on the day of your appointment, except the medications mentioned above.
