CT Scan With Contrast

  • If you are 55 years of age or older and have impaired renal function, you must first have renal function blood work done within 3 months prior to the appointment.
  • Nothing to eat or drink for 2 hours before your scheduled appointment.
  • You should stay hydrated.  We advise you drink 16 ounces of water prior to and after the exam.
  • Certain medications taken for diabetes may need to be discontinued for 48 hours after the injection of contrast.  Inquire if this applies to you.

CT Scan of Abdomen or Pelvis

Nothing to eat or drink for 4 hours before your scheduled appointment.

General Contraindications:

  1. Pregnancy
  2. IV-contrast allergic patients will need to have the CT without contrast.
  3. Hyperthyroidism or goiter patients should not have IV contrast.
  4. Pheochromocytoma should not have IV contrast.
  5. Myasthenia gravis should not have IV contrast.
  6. Patients weighing over 450 lbs might not fit on the CT unit.
