Wear a two-piece outfit.  Do not use deodorant, perfume, lotion or powder on underarms or breasts on the day of the exam.  A new focal density may represent an abnormality.  It is important to bring your previous mammograms in the form of CD or film so that your new study can be compared to the older ones.  Also, comparing current studies to previous films decreases the number of additional views and callbacks for additional imaging.  It is preferable to have a mammogram within the first 2 weeks after the first day of your period.

General Contraindications:

1. Elective screening mammography should be avoided during pregnancy, as long as the patient is asymptomatic.
2. You should wait up to 6 months after cessation of breast-feeding before receiving mammography.
